If the case was really bad, (weak) the incoming DA would have had it plead out or dropped it. This was filed under the Jackie Lacey office, a much more conservative prosecutor, whose successor, George Cascon is much more liberal, and hated in his own office, and even publicly rebuked by San Diego's DA, Summer Stephan.
The fact it's going to trial speaks to the cases strengths. Not weaknesses. Usually, a case pushed this far back is what the defense wants, loses priority, loses headlines, loses the support of the DA.
They really think the trial will last one week? This could be a mess of a trial, right before winter break, COVID cases up.
edit: the trial's length means the prosecutions case is pretty tight, concise. The defense has nothing, they will just throw whatever they can ot there, and see if they can convince a juror or two.
does Tory have a solid lawyer or some idiot?
Prosecutors case is going to be:
eyewitness testimony from a cooperating witness
Testimony from law enforcement on scene, maybe body cam footage
GSR on his hands
hospital report
evidence linking him to the scene of the crime, like GPS/cell phone, car, whatever, witnesses from the party
establish chain of custody for the gun, prints, testimony, like
"is this the gun you saw in the defendants car or waist" what is the probability that these prints are from someone other than Mr. Lanez? A million to one. Thank you.
