Air Canada is still looking to take Transat AT under its wing despite the COVID-19 pandemic that has rocked the airline industry, but it will pay far less than originally expected.

The two companies have agreed on revised terms that would see Air Canada pay $5 a share for the parent company of Air Transat, compared to the $18 per share originally pledged in its takeover bid.

That brings the total price of the takeover to $190 million, down from $720 million previously.

Air Canada says in a news release that the pandemic has had a devastating effect on the aviation industry and the value of airlines and their assets, but it still wants to proceed with the acquisition.

The deal could be concluded in early 2021 if it is approved by Transat AT shareholders and regulators in Canada and the European Union.

The European Commission’s antitrust body, which is investigating the proposed merger, has not indicated whether it would give the green light.

:damn:

Aviation will never die
When this shyt is done
Every cotdamn person will be flying

I bought a bunch of air canada shares a while back. Only a matter of time before they are back to where they were pre-covid.

really nasty the case count the last week or so. stage 1 might come back
No way. Its actually below the projections they released in late September. Moderate case scenario was supposed to have 200 people in ICU by now and its still well below that.

Also projected to have 1000 cases per day and it looks like its stabilized at 700 or so.

12 days left in October and right now 67 people in ICU.

Here are the projections from late September. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-covid-19-second-wave-cases-modelling-projections-1.5739411#:~:text=Fresh projections suggest that Ontario's,scale back non-emergency surgeries.

The projections suggest if Ontario's second wave follows what happened in the Australian state of Victoria — a sharp spike in new infections that drops off quickly after a strict lockdown — some 350 to 400 people will need an ICU bed at peak demand in late October.

If the second wave in this province plays out as Michigan's did — a rise in new infections that levels off but doesn't slow down for a long time — the forecast is for more than 200 patients with COVID-19 in the ICUs from late October onwards.

Fomite transmission is rare, a lot of the surface cleaning is pointless: Did early focus on hand washing and not masks aid spread of Covid-19?

More likely source of transmission is through air and through prolonged contact. Its one thing to restrict close group gym sessions, like spinning etc, but people lifting weights by themselves, spaced out in a big gym doesn't seem like a high risk activity.
