Yeah man. Its kind of known that the festival will be a shyt show. Canadian rap scene is a wash now. Its either "Opps/Trap" rap or "White nationalist" rap i.e. Tom MacDonald. There is no room for positive conscious black Hip Hop anymore. I don't even know if I want to record anymore.

That's the weird thing though. Cuz its people like myself and a decent handful of others who have really kept the smaller spots open for the last 10-15 years. These guys never perform locally. They can't. They just get views online and keep it violent, then others trying to come up keep having to pay security deposits and defend our craft to the general public. The last few years has been very trying for the local Hip Hop scene. Kids getting shot, or shot at by local rappers trying to kill others. Funerals getting shot up. Mangers getting murdered. Even stuff not associated with the local Hip Hop scene gets lumped in as long as black people are involved... Europe has a genuine love for the organic shyt. Always has, but thus country, man... Its like if you're not a white rapper, you need to kill a million nikkas in your raps or you don't exist... And nothing is being down to help squash any of this violence. From Brampton to Oshawa these kids are bucking hard. Some grown folk too
true indeed. i just wish the radio stations, venues, blogs would make it a point to only promote the legit artists and not the drill rappers. all i can do is shake my head.

nah your best bet is to just avoid dissing other rappers, blocks, crews etc, just rap and avoid the goofy shyt.
