TORONTO -- A teen found guilty of sexually assaulting another student at an all-boys Catholic school in Toronto has been given a two-year probationary sentence with no time behind bars.

A judge found the teen guilty in June of gang sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon after another teen was sodomized with a broom handle in a locker room at St. Michael's College School in 2018.

The prosecution argued the teen should spend three months behind bars for what it called a "violent and humiliating" incident.

The defence argued the teen should receive a probationary sentence of two years with no jail time, like four others who pleaded guilty in the same incident.

The sexual assault was captured on cellphone video and shared widely on social media before police launched an investigation, which sparked a national discussion on hazing in youth sports.

The judge said the accused teen could have chosen not to participate.

No young person involved in the proceedings can be named due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

i agree.....one thing, its institutional, there's a reason you only blacks as supervisors and very few managers in the top companies the brass doesn't want them in higher positions. Makes it more difficult to create and enforce policy that's more fair and allows the best opportunity irrespective of race, creed, etc. the world cold. as a whole blacks are seen (in policy enforcement) as low skill labour in european and north american countries for the most part. Other than professions like engineering and non medical phds. WOuld-be Medical doctors for instance have to have extracurriculars that many poorer but intellectually capable black men and women cannot access due to opportunity cost.

it's like this; it's cultural, not any "black culture" but street culture, the very fact that the street lifestyle is promoted by record execs other young black men feel it's a viable way out and to a lesser extent a viable way of life. a young man sees no success in his own family but sees his old heads living in plush condos taking trips all from movin cocaine, cannabis, sending escorts etc and wants that, it starts with just wanting enough to feed yourself, clothe yourself and feed your people if that the situation you're in as a teen. the pressure is desperate beloved it puts the world on the shoulders of people with nooooo life skills yet. Then consider some of the guys live in places where there are old beefs they had nothing to do with necessitating arming yourself buying a vest while navigating your geographic area just so you have a fukking fighting chance at taking another breath and you have a recipe for disaster....some dive head first out of bravado and end up dead or doing 25. the lucky ones might escape with some mild ptsd a minor jail bid and no criminal record depending on how trial goes.

dawg i hate to admit it but if these brehs aren't reached at around 12-14 years old they're fukked. bro not one of my potnas hasn't been to prison/provincial jail in the last 13 years if not for cocaine trafficking charges it's armed robberies (banks) and breh these guys were better students than me in elementary school. once they caught those first charges as YOs it was overrrrrrr.

mind you i'm a uni grad with his own business but when i tell you my life woulda been a wrap, not but for the grace of the most high I type these words.

dunno what to say here. the quote is accurate, but life is more nuanced. that's why judges have some wiggle room to sentence or conclude cases, each cases' facts are different so the outcomes vary because of that.

the truth is always somewhere in the middle, point is absolute stances on these very complex issues are not only ignorant, but dangerous to all our freedoms.

man, look how you coli nikkas got me being serious on this board.....fukaladat byke to these jokes....
