Indy wrestlers are never surprises, they should never present them without giving them a character first. This is what WWE did well before. They gave guys defined characters first, so they'd get a reaction before they even get into the ring
Seriously this MMA angle should have been more than just one segment
Imagine if TNA actually had a full storyline of this angle involving TNA as a promotion representing professional wrestling. Imagine if Bound For Glory would have been the end game for both promotions to bare witness supremacy of wrestling or MMA.
