Nothing
But ain’t no villain who is gonna be the primary villain in a damn Ant Man movie is gonna be this big Ole Villain like Thanos.
That’s why there’s no “build up”.
I’m just tryna warn brehs thinking they’re gonna get Thanos level character when they’re gonna get another Gorr/every other villain outside of Thanos, Loki and the concept of Killmonger
I lowered my expectations as far as his role in Phase 4 and 5, but they don't give someone that type of introduction to be a one and done villain. That's cinematic incompetence if they do. They've teased The Countess multiple times already and she's not as big as Kang.
Ironically, I think Kang is going to be a "Loki-esque" villain who helps bring about a larger villain, namely Doom. This actually has already been proven...the same teleporter Kang/Renslayer use in Loki, Reed used in MoM, Doom uses in the comics.
I'm a big Marvel Comics guy. I owned around 200 when I was a kid, collected the cards, constantly read Wizard magazine to understand the chronology. I'm not a fly-by-night fan.
Phase 3 was genius, GENIUS storytelling and world-building that's never been done before in film. What I don't get is the need to constantly defend this phase. It's clear that they have too many initiatives to hit and too many characters they are trying to push. Part of the reason Phase 4 is a miss is because they didn't get the Fox properties until the end of Phase 3, when Disney already had Phase 4 put together, so they're probably re-writing continuity at the 11th hour to fit what they already had in pre-production.
People are disappointed about this phase because Phase 3 was so spectacular, and I think it's ok to want that level of hype going forward, because they have all the elements in place to keep the energy and anticipation up, they just aren't doing it because they have too many initiatives in place...namely to help push Disney+. People aren't conditioned yet to watch Disney+ and watch the movies, and they're missing shyt from the Disney+ shows that could easily show up in movies; for instance the gods in Moon Knight not being in Thor L&T is a miss, Kang not having any appearance in the 10 or so productions post Loki is a miss, etc.
It's ok to say they are missing. It's the only way we'll get back to the level of greatness they were at just 3-4 years ago. Sadly, I think BP2, GoTG 3 and The Marvels are going to be lackluster too. Ant-Man is the next MCU film I'm excited about.
