I think Cinemax will most likely give it to him. The Knick is an incredible series. It's ratings aren't too high. Banshee gets a much bigger audience.
But I feel that audience can grow, and guaranteeing Soderburgh will stay on for 4 seasons gives them a safety net. Plus Cinemax is about to be in a weird phase where they are launching all new original series after Banshee finishes. So they don't have any guaranteed hits or stability viewer wise. The Knick returning would give them some stability while they figure out which new shows work or don't.
