When Med plays his best tennis he can beat anyone. He's 27 still. I don't think he's a natural pick for most slams but if you told me he is going to finish with a couple more before he retires would I be surprised? Not at all.

If he wins at least 8 slams, I'll be a happy camper

I'll take it a step further and say it's asinine to say Medvedev has no chance against Nadal, Federer, or Djokovic as well

He literally was in 2 Finals with Nadal that he had clear chances of winning, and won against Djokovic. It was odd commentary in the first place. Especially since out of the new generation, Medvedev has had the best competitive matches against them outside of Alcaraz
These are Med's Slam results since he gagged against Nadal:

4th round
Banned from Wimbledon
4th round
3rd round
1st round
Semis (annihilated by Alcaraz; didn't play a ranked player until him and almost lost to Eubanks in the quarters)

We all know he's talented but he has not played at this level in almost two years. Anyone saying otherwise is being obtuse just to be argumentative.

I would say the same thing about Tsitsipas.

We are saying two different things. You are saying he has not played up to this level the past 2 years
I am saying no one should be shocked at the performance he had tonight because he was capable of this from his matches with Nadal, Djokovic, and others
And getting to the 4th round and the Semi Finals aren't horrible places to be, so I don't get your point there

And to compare him to Tsitsipas, don't ever mention Medvedev in the same sentence with that mental midget

Tsitsipas has performed about the same as Med the past two years in Slams and made the Aussie final this year.

Doesn't matter, Medvedev's accomplishments and competitive matches with Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic puts him in a different category than Tsitsipas

If you would have said Theim, then I could understand your point

This. Shouldn't speak down on someone that has been there before and won. He has just as many majors as Carlos yet they were acting like he was new to it all

He has one less than Carlos.

Just because Med was great 2-3 years ago does not mean he hasn't been mediocre since that meltdown against Rafa. That scrub Ruud has been to three finals since Med last did.

If Thiem somehow gets back to a Slam final, should we not be surprised after the way he's fallen off?

Ah yes forget Carlos has 2.

Med has been playing well throughout US Open and is 3 seed. He shouldn't be dismissed just like that. I didn't think he would win but I'm not totally shocked that he did

What played into it is how Alcaraz bodied him in the last few meetings, didn't expect Medvedev to change it up because he's been so hesitant to do it previously.

Credit to him for the difference approach.

That's what I'm saying. You can say "Listen, I think Alcaraz is gonna win tonight because x, y and z" but to completely dismiss Medvedev like that we better be talking about someone playing at a GOAT level and Alcaraz has not yet reached that status.

Therefore... yes he was crowned prematurely. Everyone knows Alcaraz doing what he's doing at 20 likely means he's got next after Joker but there's no reason to try to force the narrative on viewers already.

Yes, and it's still pathetic and an outright embarrassment that they continue to do that.

Every sporting governing body in the world have been doing this. The IOC/IAAF have been doing it to Russia on various occasions over the last 10 years for their various doping violations. And have made the Russian competitors compete as independents when Russia has been banned/suspended

Yeah that's crazy disrespectful to compare Med to Stef. I have more respect for Ruud than Stef.
