He played like shyt on the Lakers. UNTIL he finally accepted a 6th man role. Ham said it's a day to day conversation to keep him in the mind set that being 6th man is ok and benficial.
Then he got to be the man on a team where the two superstars are sitting out. he's STILL 6th man just moved up the roster.
We've seen this story time and time again. Russ is the thirsty mid at the end of the night willing to do anything. They only look good because the bad bytches went home early. They still a good time. But it's not what you wanted and it won't get you to where you want to be.
