Seems most people think political parties are official parts of the US government and therefore it is your right to be able to vote in primaries held by these parties. They arent and it isnt.

The role of a political party is to get members of their party elected. Period. Having the public vote on the candidates pushed by the party is not a right, its a tool to gin up support for a candidate which will hopefully translate to the general election. If they didnt feel like you participating in the voting process to select a candidate would help them in any way then they dont have to let you vote at all as evidenced by what happened in Colorado with the Republican Party.

These parties arent here for you, they exist for them.

Private organizations running for public positions. The alternative would probably be worse and too controlling but if more people demand a more representative democracy they'll have to listen. They will do anything to block a third party uprising and we'll see evidence of that come summertime.

The problem with this is that these primaries are funded by taxpayers. Telling a taxpayer they cannot vote in something they paid for is awkward. With that said, you're right.

From what I've read, they're only encouraging folks who believe they've been purged or have had their parties switched after being registered Democrats to cast provisional ballots.

So :mjcry: for me

Right, I agree that its wrong for people to pay for primaries they cant participate in but the Supreme Court has already ruled that parties can choose to exclude voters not of their party so what can you do?

Its a very flawed system so for now the only thing these independents can do is just sign up for the party they most closely align with and vote. Cause really these folks dont give a shyt about all the kicking and screaming at the end of the day.
