CD Projekt says the ‘full-blown, next-gen’ Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be a launch game | VGC
CD Projekt intends to release a “proper, full-blown next-gen version” of Cyberpunk 2077 – but it won’t be an Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 launch game.

In February the company confirmed its support for the Xbox Series X cross-buy scheme, Smart Delivery, which lets players buy a game once and play it across multiple Xbox generations.

“Gamers should never be forced to purchase the same game twice or pay for upgrades,” the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account said at the time. “Owners of #Cyberpunk2077 for Xbox One will receive the Xbox Series X upgrade for free when available.”

However, speaking during an earnings call this week, CD Projekt SVP of business development Michal Nowakowski suggested that a separate, significantly enhanced version of the game will also be released for next-gen consoles, but that it won’t be a launch title for Xbox Series X and PS5.

Update, April 10: A CD Projekt Red spokesperson has clarified that the “full-blown next-gen version” Nowakowski referred to is the previously announced Xbox Series X upgrade.

Original story continues: During a Q&A session, CD Projekt was asked whether Cyberpunk 2077 “will be immediately available” on the new consoles or if the company will take some time to finish the next-gen version after the hardware launches.

“In terms of Microsoft’s console, like I said, we have officially confirmed both the update and the cross-gen availability, meaning that you’ll be able to play the game from the get-go on the next-gen,” Nowakowski said.

Cyberpunk 2077 will release for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Stadia in September
“However, when it comes to a proper, full-blown next-gen version, that’s going to come later, we haven’t announced when and I don’t have a new comment here on that.

“But a patch will be available to everybody who purchases the Xbox One version here and now from the get-go, once that update is live they’ll be able to download that free of charge. That’s the announcement we have officially made and again, I cannot really comment on the policies of the first parties before they officially announce them.”

“There’s no official announcement coming from PlayStation so we really can’t confirm or deny anything,” he added. “It’s PlayStation that first needs to address these issues and then we’re happy to make a comment, but we can’t jump the gun ahead of them.”

During the earnings call, Nowakowski also reiterated that CD Projekt feels “comfortable” it’s on track to hit the game’s September release date.

However, working from home and the closure of recording studios due to the coronavirus pandemic has held up the localisation process, meaning some voice work might have to be added to Cyberpunk 2077 in a launch day patch.

Cyberpunk 2077 DLC and story expansions will be announced before the game’s release, CD Projekt suggested this week. Company president Adam Kiciński also confirmed that the title will have “no less DLC than The Witcher 3 had

I'm already expecting Sony to fukk this up.

PS5 Games Reveal Officially Confirms Sony’s Next-Gen Party Event
The next issue of OPM will reported cover the games coming to PS5, offering a further indication that a May reveal event is on the cards.

  • An advertisement suggests the next issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK will ‘reveal the latest games coming to PlayStation 5.’
  • The news seems to align with rumors that Sony is planning a PlayStation 5 event next month.
  • OPM has a sketchy track record when it comes to revealing exclusive game details.
The Official PlayStation Magazine UK (OPM) has offered one of the clearest indications yet that Sony is gearing up for a PlayStation 5 reveal in May.

Likelihood Of May PlayStation 5 Event Gathers Steam
An advertisement found in the digital version of the latest OPM suggests the magazine’s next issue will hone in on the games coming to PlayStation 5. The ad found its way onto Redditbefore spreading on social media.

The advertisement reads:

It’s coming. The next-gen starts next issue as we reveal the latest games coming to PlayStation 5, and how they’ll play.

Sony handing such a big scoop to a magazine in this day and age seems unlikely, which naturally leads to speculation that we’ll hear much more from Sony before the next OPM goes on sale on June 2.

Rumors of a May reveal event have circulated far and wide courtesy of sources speaking to outlet Video Game Chronicle, which reported as much. Sony has yet to announce anything officially, but OPM’s next issue seems to back up the likelihood of a May reveal event.

A Sketchy Track Record
It’s worth noting that OPM doesn’t have a flawless track record, though, which raises concerns as to the credibility of their claim.

Most recently, OPM was caught publicly recycling content in its March and May 2020 issues. Two articles covering Ghost of Tsushima claimed to provide brand new exclusive information, notably relating to way-points. It surfaced soon afterward that OPM had extracted ‘inaccuracies’ from two-year-old interviews, official blog posts, and trailers.

OPM offered an apology of sorts and was quick to distance itself from both Sony and Ghost of Tsushima developer, Sucker Punch Productions.

A pinch of salt would do well to help manage expectations ahead of the official word from Sony.

New Battlefield Game Coming In 2021 For PS5 And Trashbox Series T
Eddie Makuch
April 28, 2020 at 4:47PM PDT
The new Battlefield game is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2021.

The next Battlefield game is coming in 2021, developer DICE has confirmed. In a statement to IGN, the Swedish studio said that, with support for Star Wars: Battlefront II and Battlefield V winding down, it is "focused on the future of Battlefield" for a new game set for release in 2021.

This new Battlefield game was announced in October 2019, at which time publisher Electronic Arts said the game would launch in the company's fiscal year 2022, which runs from April 2021 to March 2022. Now we know a more specific launch period--sometime in 2021.

EA hasn't shared any concrete details about the new Battlefield game, but it did tease that the title will be "targeting new innovation that will be enabled by next-gen platforms."

By the time that this new Battlefield game releases in 2021, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be on the market, so you can probably expect it to launch on those consoles, as well as PC.

EA said it is releasing this new Battlefield game in 2021 instead of 2020, when the new consoles release, to take advantage of their larger install base. "Bringing out Battlefield [in 2020], where the new console base is fairly small, doesn't really give justice to the potential of the title, and so that's part of our driver in moving the title into fiscal 22," EA management said.

DICE has studios in Stockholm, Sweden and in Los Angeles, California. The DICE LA studio is now being run by Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella, as part of the expanded responsibilities of his recent promotion.

2018's Battlefield V took place in World War II, while 2016's Battlefield 1 was set during World War I. The series hasn't seen a modern-day release since 2015's Battlefield Hardline.

PS5 gets spoiler-blocking technology to dodge Last Of Us Part 2-style leaks

  • The anti-spoiler PS5 patent shows off a new era of connected, social gaming

PS5 looks set to be full of highly advanced hardware. According to a technology-heavy presentation by lead system architect Mark Cerny, it's packing a huge solid state drive which will reportedly eliminate loading times, an output of 10.2 Teraflops of graphical power, and a controller with never-before-seen haptic feedback triggers.

All these features are there to enhance your enjoyment of the game you're playing. So isn't it a real bummer when you're halfway through an engrossing story-driven game, only to find someone has leaked the plot all over the internet.

Most recently, we've seen it happen with The Last Of Us Part 2, the highly-anticipated follow up to 2013's blockbuster hit. However, you can rest assured that in the eight generation of consoles, Sony is taking steps to ensure your gaming experience remains unspoiled.

Sony has recently been granted a patent by the USPO for a "spoiler-blocking technology" that could be integrated into the PS5. The general gist of the new patent is as described: a service to block content from appearing about a game you've yet to complete.

However, it's more sophisticated than that. The patent document suggests the service could prevent content from being shown that specifically relates to parts of the game you haven't encountered yet, while leaving information regarding parts of the game you have completed free for you to browse.

What exactly the nature of this content might be, we're not sure yet, but it tells us a lot about Sony's vision for the PS5. The patent reads the following:

"The technology disclosed herein can allow players to engage with friends and the community around narrative games with the confidence that they will not accidentally see spoilers (which can include an activity, character, item, outcome of activity, action, effect, location, and attribute of character or item)."

Judging by what's seen here, the PS5 will allow gamers to interact in a more sophisticated fashion, engaging with friends and gaming socially. Most gaming forums are hosted online, and are accessed away from the console on a phone or laptop. With PS5 DualSense's Create button and in-built microphone, Sony seems to be placing a huge emphasis on social gaming.

It seems as though Sony understands the scope of discussion around games, and is looking to harness that to keep players on the console for longer.

The PS5 will rely on developers to mark certain pieces of information as "secret", although we're not yet sure how the console will be able to reveal them in conversation without scanning and vetting every message. Leaks and details will always be on the internet too, in the same way they've been for the last decade.

We must be clear this is a patent, and does not guarantee the technology will be co-opted and used in the new console. Nevertheless, it's exciting to see Sony plan for a new era of connected gaming.

SONY PLAYSTATION 5 NEW AUDIO ENGINE CAN IMPROVE CPU PERFORMANCE
EFE UDINMAY 4, 2020

The Sony PlayStation 5 will be released towards the end of the year but new information about this console keeps hitting the web. Earlier, the company officially released the hardware specs of this console. However, we still do not know what the PS5 will look like. Reports claim that the company is likely to announce more information about the PS5 in May/June this year. While we wait for that to happen, we have more reports regarding the PS5.

Recently, Marc-André Jutras, technical director of the Canadian production team, Cradle Games, commented on the PS5’s new Tempest engine. According to him, the new PlayStation 5 audio engine can greatly improve CPU performance.

According to Marc-André Jutras, the 3D sound effect supported by the Tempest engine is not a new concept in itself. However, it is not only easier to implement hardware-level 3D sound effects on the PS5 with the Tempest engine, but it also provides better results. He believes that the Tempest engine has the potential to dig deeper, and because hardware acceleration frees the CPU thread from the heavy audio calculations, it also greatly improves the performance of the CPU in a sense.

A recent leak shows that PS5 players can try a game in the PS Store without downloading it. This trial will help the player make a decision (whether to purchase it or not). The principle of download-free play is more popular with cloud gaming. Just like Sony’s current PS Now service, you try the game on a remote host over the internet. You can try it at any time as long as you have an internet connection. Recent speculations claim that Sony will officially announce more PS5 information on June 4.

The Sony PlayStation 5 uses a custom AMD 8 core 3.5GHz Zen 2 CPU, a custom RDNA 2 GPU containing 36 sets of CU units, a floating-point computing capability of 10.28 TFLOPs, a 16GB GDDR6 memory, a custom 825GB SSD, and a 4K UHD Blu-ray drive. SSD is the key to PS5 performance improvement. The seek time of PS4 takes 2-50 seconds, while PS5 is almost instant. In terms of loading speed, PS5 can load 2GB of memory in 0.27 seconds, while PS4 takes 20 seconds to load 1GB. Sony believes that the new SSD will significantly speed up the PS5 game loading speed. According to the company, games can launch within a second with almost no loading time.
