Why did we need this post

That's his gimmick, breh. Most of his posts in here are just random tweets, images, or gifs to hype up exclusives.

On another note that some might find useful, since it's CES time, Sony rolled out details on their new OLED TVs (still looks like MediaTek SoC, so only two HDMI 2.1 ports :unimpressed:), and their new top end range supports VRR out of the box. They're supposedly lining up the software update that will enable VRR on 2021 TVs for the same time as this release, AND VRR support for the PS5. So, by the spring, we should finally have that feature.

So what does VRR does in simple terms? My TV has that now

Basically, it means the device supports frame rates that aren't a whole or round number. If you've ever seen anything like this on older TVs:

Screen-Tearing.jpg

That's screen tearing, which mostly caused by framerates not matching. Your TV supporting it means if whatever its displaying dips to 52fps, or spikes to 72.3fps, it'll match it so you don't have situations like that, where it's getting more or less frames than say 60 or 120.

It's good for gaming because even though these current consoles can hit 120fps on some games, most games don't hold that rate consistently. So, instead of your PS5 trying to push out 60fps to your TV even though the game might be dipping to 57 or some shyt, it'll just push 57, or 62, or whatever, in real time.

TLDR; when both the PS5 and TV both support VRR, frame drops are less jarring, and look far less glitchy.

Also thought this article was interesting concerning sonys acquisitions for the upcoming year. Seems like the company as a whole wants to compete with the big dogs

At a feverish moment for media M&A, Yoshida makes it clear that Sony is a buyer, not a seller. And he flatly disputes the notion that Sony doesn't have enough heft to compete on a global scale, given the parent company's resources and the increasing ties between Sony Pictures Entertainment and its corporate siblings.
