Earlier last week Sony announced that they had a limited edition Sony PlayStation 4 that would celebrate its 20th anniversary. Basically the console has been given a paint job where it resembles the finish of the original PlayStation, including its controller. It’s a hark back to the good old days and we’re sure more than a few gamers were interested in getting their hands on it.
Well the bad news is that if you wanted to get one for yourself, Sony has sold out of them completely. According to the US PlayStation store, it reads, “We appreciate your interest, but we will have no more inventory. Apologies for the inconvenience.” Now we should note that this is only for the US market as we expect Sony will be making the console available in other markets as well.
However given that Sony only plans to producing 12,300 units of the 20th anniversary PlayStation 4 console, we can only assume that the console will most likely sell out very fast in international markets as well. If they aren’t bought by collectors, there is a good chance that they will be bought by resellers who are hoping to sell them for a higher price.
Don’t be surprised if you start seeing these units appear on websites like eBay or Craigslist, and also don’t be surprised if they are priced much higher than Sony’s original price for the console. In the meantime did any of our readers manage to get their hands on one of the consoles?
