Those DoA units are pretty common, but once you have a working unit, it just works. Just take it back and get another one.

Not sure if you've already made your decision, but I'd recommend Black Flag over Infamous, and I initially purchased Infamous over BF when I was debating what would be my first title. Infamous is a good game and graphically it's arguably the best looking next-gen title avalable, but the story is extremely short and very meh. While it doesn't look as graphically impressive, BF has a hell of a lot more to do and is easily the best in the series since AC2. I'm having a great time with it. If game length plays a big factor into your selection, I'd suggest you go with Assassins Creed.
