PlayStation 4 gamers may soon be able to pre-load titles onto their console before the game is released, so they can play it the second launch day rolls around.

According to Infamous: Second Son developer Sucker Punch on Twitter, the functionality is due to arrive in North America from April. No word has been given about whether other territories will see it, but presumably that'll be soon.

Though we've yet to get any official word about this from Sony, we do know a big patch is on the way next month that's set to include video editing, a HDCP off option and an upgrade in Twitch broadcasting quality.

The telling part of yesterday's update announcement was the final sentence, which promised, "there’s a lot more coming in this update as well," so it's very possible that pre-loading is going to be one of these currently unannounced features.

In case you missed it earlier this week, the company announced it's working on its own 3D Virtual Reality headset to rival the upcoming Oculus Rift. Seeing as sales figures for the console are currently sitting at comfortably over 6 million, there's definitely a market for the new device.

If this is true, I'd probably go digital a lot more. Being able to jump right into the game on launch would be great.

it does? i've never noticed...just notice it puts whatever game i just earned a trophy in up first...might have to pay attention next time i get a trophy...

anyway, the info about the upcoming upddate is cool and all, but hopefully included in it is a way to clean up the interface....i dont like everything being lined up the way it is...they need to make it more like the ps3, it's cleaner and easier to get to shyt...

They need to change the sounds too. I had to turn it off, I prefer the ticking sounds from the XMB.

They just need to put the Libray TAB up front so people can get to their DLC games quicker. Or just bring us Folders back, but honestly without being able to put media on the HDD we really can't use many different folders now anyway

Just got my ps4 all set up. Is it right that dead nation apocalypse edition is the only free game download showing up for me?

I downloaded it so I know my ps plus carried over.
