I’ve taped games for 5 years and have used a Panasonic FZ2500 and a Panasonic FZ300 and they are PERFECT for the job.

I know that’s not a direct answer to your question, but you can get both - a main and a backup - for the price of a good telephoto lens. Like the GH5, they are video workhorses and can take good photos as well. For that kind of work, can’t recommend them highly enough.

You can get a used FZ2500 for $550 or so, and a used FZ300 for around $250-300.

Never thought about that. I'm looking into it. Good looks!

No prob breh.

If people are looking for an extremely easy way to make some money on the side, filming and uploading film from high school football and basketball games to HUDL is about as easy as it gets. Just put the cameras on AUTO and follow the action.

I also sold the ability to send scoring plays/highlights straight from the camera to a mobile device for sharing on social media. Easily get $100 a game and the cameras will pay for themselves in no time.

Yea I'm bout to get put on with a high school $200 a game, their filmer is leaving.

That's a smart move selling the highlights in game.

I'm trying to do this right cause they just won their first state championship, so who knows what can come of it from exposure

You have a hudl link that you can share that you filmed with those cameras?

$200 a game is good shyt.

This is a highlight clip of games I shot almost exclusively with the Panasonic FZ300. It can shoot 4K but I shot all of my games in 1080p. Smaller file sizes means much shorter upload times and the players and coaches - high school and college recruiters - are gonna watch this stuff almost exclusively on their phones/iPads.

Just FYI, the only downside to the FZ300 is that it doesn’t have a clean HDMI output. It has an articulating screen and is touchscreen so it works pretty good but if you want a bigger display for framing purposes, you would want to use the FZ2500 as the primary and the FZ300 as the backup, and you always want to make sure you have a backup.

Video is clean.

I think along with the game they want hype videos for certain games

Do you have it on autofocus ?

Smart about the size. 4k takes so much space

I keep it on AUTO the entire time. 1080p at 30fps. All I bring is a backpack with my main camera and a backup, a few batteries, memory cards and a monopod.

Did you have issues with your main camera going down?

Also for highlight tapes do you ever use slow mo? Just wondering because of the 30 vs. 60 fps

And you like the monopod over a tripod?

I’ve had issues twice with my main camera either overheating on a really hot day or the record function just going kaput in the middle of a game. Luckily, both times, I had a backup.

if you’re doing hype videos, I would shoot at 60 fps so you always have the option of slowing your footage down. I never had to worry about that, so I just shot at 30 fps.

For me, video tripods were too much to carry around to games and monopods were much easier to carry and did the job. You’ll see other people at games filming with ENG cameras on tripods and it just didn’t make sense to me. Lighter is better and at the end of the day, all that matters is how the video looks.

Pro photographer Vincent Laforet was headed to the Olympics to shoot for Newsweek back in '08. He put some shots of his travel gear on his website, these are old pics that have been floating around the web for awhile now. I couldn't even imagine trying to keep track of this stuff..........
