I can up it for you if you want it

Y'all know what pisses me off? Lightroom, Adobe really out here finessing us by just letting us rent their programs now days. I'm still tight that I can't pay one solid fee to own the program. I'm about to find a crack for this shyt.

You can also do like me and hit up the open source alternatives like Darkroom. Adobe won't see a penny from me until the day I can monetize my work. Business don't wanna hear that you know of an alternative program, but the skills are easily transferable. Also if you dig a program enough, tossing a donation should be no issue. Adobe out here hoeing creators.
I have rawtherappe installed too but Lightroom seems quicker to use.

that homeless man :wow:

My office is near this street, so I've been snapping shots around here over the years. What's crazy about that scene is that I've photographed someone else with that exact sign (if it's not the same one, it damn sure looks like it) a few years ago not that far from that intersection. I wonder how much money some of these dudes making cause you notice the same faces and they been on this for years

Since some of yal have been talking about software options for post processing and editing, I guess I'll drop some of my initial thoughts on Capture One Pro.

If you shoot Sony, I think it's worth a shot because it's 79.99 for the Sony Version and like 399 for the regular one.

Pros:

  • Customization - you have full control over how your workspace looks and the settings you want to use, I'm still messing around with stuff but I see the potential here
  • Color Controls and options are extensive, feels more natural color grading in Capture One than in LR
  • The layer features allow you to get pretty deep into making specific edits/changes... if you use them a lot in Photoshop, you'll feel familiar with them here
  • A lot of good default presets and styles to work with, I haven't added anything so far, but from what's there already, you should be good if you're seasoned with post processing
  • It's good for your typical editing purposes, but it also allows you to do more. It's like a LR+Photoshop hybrid
Cons:
  • The layout can be overwhelming, but that's where customization to your workspace comes into play
  • The crop option is clunky compared to LR IMO, it gets the job done, but it's more seamless in LR (could be because I use a mouse in LR and a Macbook for C1?)
  • When doing a quick syncing of settings (copy and paste) the software brings over the same crop as well, so you'll have to re-crop the image you're applying the settings to... not a big deal, but annoying
  • Export settings are limited. On LR you can the size of the jpg that you are exporting and be done with it, on C1, you can't do this. You can manipulate the file size using a image quality slider, but yeah... not exactly what I'm used to

So overall, from a noob's perspective, I like the software. Haven't done any real heavy editing in LR since I copped C1 because I'm trying to really get in-tune with it since I want to be able to work and flip shyt around on my Mac when necessary. There's still a ton I'm learning, but it's coming along. Just trying to get a solid workflow intact so I can speed up my editing sessions. Still finding my way around.

And as result to not having the option to simply control the file sizes, I'm going to start using flickr again to just load the full res images from the software because when I've tried messing around with a lower quality export setting, it's not looking like I want it to when I pull it up online. Haven't put my finger on what the best Recipe is for exporting from the software yet.

I hear what you're saying but let's analyze this. They made a new LR pretty much every year and a half.

LR 6 was about $150, CC where you get PS/LR/Camera Raw is $9.99 a month. By the time LR 7 would come out (they aren't making any more though) you would pretty much pay for it with having CC. But with CC you get all the updates PLUS Photoshop.

Makes sense in my head at least:yeshrug:

Plus syncing LR CC with LR mobile comes in handy for me at times. I'm not buying Final Cut Pro from Apple though, fukk that. I just got a cracked version:russ:

So I did a trial for Photoshop and damn near hated it:beli:. The software was a bit taxing on my PC which is pretty alright for a entry level desktop. Plus, the amount of content is overkill for what I want to do with my photos and etc. I think I'm going to roll with Affinity:ld:

Quick question for the self made business photography brehs:patrice:

How did yall get put on, I mean like give me tips on starting up a freelance type of business. I know its not going to happen overnight, but every bit of knowledge will do me good:feedme:. What I want to do so far is create business cards and hit up local businesses for some social marketing ideas involving taking shots of their products. This job my wife is trying to pursue is a perfect place to start up shop since it focuses on children with needs and community based projects.
