Yes and no. They're cheap enough to get some experience with strobe lighting which is valuable if you don't have anyone else's to borrow or practice on....but it's a certain that you'll be upgrading them once you get going and they carry hardly any resale value. Another option is building up a collection of flashes and buy some light stands & umbrellas and get some pocket wizards. Flashes you'll always have & people are always selling them on Craigslist. Also you can take flashes outside since they require no external power.

No problem! Glad to help out. Here's a good umbrella:

It's pretty sturdy and you don't necessarily need the more expensive umbrellas since they are more suited for larger light sources. You'll also need a flash/hotshoe bracket to hold the umbrellas but it's one of those multipurpose things that's great to have.

photoshop/gimp I copy the picture in layers make it blk/white and add color in from the lower layer.....if that makes any sense.
