My bro is looking to get into photography, both still pictures & interviews. Any suggestions on a good camera for both in the price range of $300-600?

Also are there any reputable sites that sells cameras & equipment second hand?

I can only speak for Canon. I know there are guys who use Nikon, Fuji, and Sony here who can speak on those brands, but you can get a good startup Canon for under $700. The camera is only the first part though. Eventually he'll start "needing" or wanting new lenses and that's where it gets expensive.

Good looks, what Canon do you recommend? Will the stock lenses be able to record 1080p video footage crisp & clear?

Edit:
This any good?

What ya'll think about that guy selling other people's photos off of IG for 90k just because he commented on them and then took a screen shot of them?
I dont post any of my pics to IG but this keeps me from ever wanting to, I had some on FB, but I took them off once I launched my website.

If he wants to get into video, and canon make sure the camera can take advantage of the STM lenses unless he plans to buy a separate mic.

EDIT:Here's a pic since I haven't posted in awhile. Since Chicago was brought up, here is a pic from last year.

Doesn't have to be a Cannon, what do you recommend? Would i get better quality audio from a shotgun mic anyway?

Saw this on a few sites. Here is my feelings on it. Not my response, but the way I feel is pretty much the same.

"Richard Prince, I hope someone steals your clothes from your gym locker and your gym bag. I hope when you go to the parking lot in your shorts, you'll find your car stolen. When you reach for your cellphone that will be gone and your watch and keys. When you finally do get home some will have been through your house and all your possession will have vanished leaving only clean spots on the walls and carpets where things had been. I hope your bicycle is stolen. And everything you once considered yours. Everything."

As far as posting on Instagram I still post my pics. So far I don't think anyone has stolen my pics. I don't think I have enough followers to have to worry about that. I've had people repost my pics to theirs, but they've always given credit. Helped me gain some new followers so I can't complain.

Yes otherwise the camera will record the sound of the lens when it focuses. Canon has STM(silent transmission motors or somthing like that) that are quiet when focusing. As far as recommendation idk whats good in that price range I shoot canon, but its not really a better brand just better cameras for certain task.

Since he wants to do Vid too, I would recommend looking up magic lantern, it's a 3rd party firmware you can add to most canon cameras that add a bunch of features. Check CL for a cheap 7D.

Here is a self portrait from last night, messing with lights, did this while sitting on my bed.

Co-sign, you can pick up a 7D for $500-$600, I bought one in damn near new condition about 6 months ago, great camera.

I found my passion :mjcry:

Now how do i finesse this into a career :patrice:

Make great photos, always charge people for shoots and shyt even if it's like $20 if you dont think you are ready, raise your prices as you get better and clients start to build up. Know your equipment inside and out, get back gear. Really you have to hustle, because now a days everybody knows somebody with a camera who will most likely shoot them for free. I'm just starting out too, I recently made a website, and I stumbled upon a freelance journalist job. It doesn't pay much but it keeps money in my pocket while I build up my clients.

honestly for a career, idk, you can survive, but when you start having kids and stuff idk if the income is enough after you factor in all of the cost involved in getting, maintaining and upgrading gear and also insurance for the gear. Also, when things slow down you're going to need to have some money saved up, I charged $175 for an hour shoot a couple weeks ago, and that would be great if I had clients lined up back to back, plus you're going to have to pay taxes on that. Also, by DSLRs being cheaper than before, everybody think they are a photographer, and those people are killing the market when they shoot for free or really cheap, most people think you just take a pic and then bam, but they don't factor in the time it takes to develop the pics. Good luck on your quest, but I'm just using this to get a lil paper while I finish school. I don't think its enough money to base a career on unless you get into weddings and get really good and then you can charge $5-10k for a wedding.

I'm in college also and I plan for this to be a side hustle. Maybe a business when I save up some money after college.
