NBC Sports says Raiders have owner's permission to draft RB Joe Mixon

NBC Sports says Raiders have owner's permission to draft RB Joe Mixon

Multiple teams have been granted permission by their ownership to draft former Oklahoma Sooners running back Joe Mixon Mixon, including the Oakland Raiders per Josh Norris of NBC Sports.

The other teams with ownership approval include the Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints, Cincinnati Bengals. Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys, per Norris.

Here is a look at Norris’ segment on Pro Football Talk where he the report was first heard.

Mixon is a first-round talent with an Adonis physique. He has huge hands for a running back (10.25 inches), and at almost 6-foot-1 and 228 pounds, Mixon possesses the size and skill set to step in as a Day 1 starter for Oakland.

Despite his inordinate amount of talent, the video of him assaulting a young woman finally surfaced after months of his team trying to suppress it, causing permanent damage to his draft stock. Simply put, the imagery of Mixon breaking several bones in the face of his victim is something many general managers can’t shake — nor abide, on their roster.

While general manager Reggie McKenzie’s thoughts on Mixon are unknown, we know Raiders owner Mark Davis won’t stand in the way should McKenzie feel Mixon is the correct selection at the 2017 NFL draft on April 27-29 in Philadelphia.

Could Raiders end talks with Marshawn Lynch?

Report: Raiders could remove themselves from Marshawn Lynch talks

The Raiders are reportedly “willing to walk away from a potential deal” with Marshawn Lynch.

That’s the way MMQB’s Albert Breer put it Thursday in a few notes he wrote on the Oakland native’s ongoing contract discussion with the Raiders.

“Maybe the Raiders are bluffing, but my understanding is that as much as they liked meeting with Marshawn Lynch, and were impressed with the shape he’s in, it was communicated they’re willing to walk away from a potential deal,” Breer wrote. “The draft would seem to provide a natural deadline, particularly because of the strength of this year’s running back class. That said, despite the outside hysteria, I’ve gotten the sense the Raiders/Lynch talks have remained positive.”

Still, he’s not the only NFL reporter considering a potential shake-up to the possibility Lynch joins the Raiders. Along with Bay Area News Group’s NFL beat writer Jerry McDonald, who delved into Oakland’s RB situation via Lynch/the draft, there’s also such speculation from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

“It is possible that the Raiders get on the clock Thursday night or Friday and say, ‘All right, we’re going to take this running back. He has a value here for us. We’re just going to take the leap,'” Rapoport said Tuesday on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football. “And once they take a running back, it probably will close the door on Marshawn Lynch.”

Raider Nation would surely be disappointed not to bring in Beast Mode. But there remains a chance the Raiders exit talks with Lynch and the East Bay product doesn’t wind up playing for his hometown team.
