Rodgers is gonna be 41 with very minimal mobility. There’s a good chance he’s one and done and then we’re searching again for another QB this off season. Geno Smith is a much better option for where the Raiders are currently. He’s a viable QB in the immediate that allows the team to be competitive and not have to reach for a QB in this draft or next years draft. Rodgers makes more sense for a team that is Super Bowl built on a high risk/high reward deal. It doesn’t make much sense for a team looking for stability and we don’t need the extra baggage and drama he brings. We need to get away from them types.

A third rounder for a good starting QB is a steal, especially when we have a stockpile of picks. The Raiders have two third round picks because we have the Jets pick from the Adams trade.

Don't like it. They're talking about $45 mil a year. Everyone is down on Sanders and i think he'll be good at the next level.

I srill say draft him. AOC can be a backuo somewhere else.

I hope we don't regret not getting a young QB, again.

Only problem I see is Geno is turning 35 next season. So you’ll still likely be looking for a QB in a year or two anyway. Giving up a 3rd and signing him to a big-ish contract is going to limit the team’s upside for a few years. Plus it’s not like the Raiders are loaded with talent across the board and just need a QB to compete. It’d be different if the Raiders were in a weak division. The team probably should just bottom out for another year or two while stockpiling assets, not give up a 3rd for what’ll end up being a stopgap QB.

Geno is basically black Derek Carr with more mobility. He’ll be above average at the position, while we can find our QB of the future. Geno at the very least can get the offense to be respectable and is a vast improvement over last year.

More importantly, the Raiders need to put a competitive team on the field so actual Raiders fans will be compelled to fill the stands in Vegas. The last three seasons have been embarrassing as far as visiting fans filling the stands.

So far so good from Spyteck and Pete.

I like this move. I think it makes the most sense for us considering the position we're in.

And looking back, I'm kinda glad we didn't get the top pick because I think that would've pressured the organization to go QB and im starting to think that's not the best move for a struggling team.

Looking at the top 4 QBs (Jackson, Allen, Mahomes, Burrow), 3 of 4 were drafted to teams that already had winning records before their arrival.

Jackson was drafted to a 9-7 Ravens team that was led by Flacco.
Allen replaced Tyrod on a 9-7 Bill's team.
Mahomes was drafted to a team that went 12-4 with Alex Smith before he arrived. Burrow is the only one from that group to walk into a bad situation and find success.

You can also add the fact that the Eagles just won a Super Bowl with a QB they drafted in the 2nd round after going 9-7.

I think it's tough for a young QB to come in and turn a bad franchise around. It happens, but you kinda gotta get lucky. For every Stroud, there's a Byrce Young. For every JD, there's a Caleb Williams. Im not writing either one of these QBs off btw, but I think the safest/best time to take a QB is when you have the talent for a QB to succeed and not put him in a situation where he's expected to perform miracles to win.

If rather go with a stopgap QB and go BPA until we get enough talent to put a young qb in a better situation.

All Geno needs to do is get us relevant enough to change the mood in the locker room, make us attractive to FA's and give us enough time to go BPA until we have enough talent to go get our longterm solution.

I think Geno definitely has a ceiling but I think we're about 2 off seasons and 2 drafts away from being SB viable (baring everything goes right) and then we should have drafted our next future QB to play under Geno until he's ready. That's why I'm not tripping about that part.

Actually Carr is a better athlete and more mobile now, he's just a scary bytch :russ:

I like this move, as long as they don't give Geno some blockbuster contract. Allows us to draft smarter instead of reaching for a QB. With the soft schedule next year, improved health on the defense, we can win 10-11 games. Maybe draft a QB 3rd rd and develop them for a couple of years.
apparently seahawks traded Geno within a day of sitting down with him/his agent discussing terms of the new deal because they wanted to extend him

rumors are Geno wants ~45m per :lupe:
