Rockstar Spud leaves Impact, could join 205 Live with Hideo Itami
The steady flow of talent into and out of Impact continues amidst allegations from the
media and
former executives that Anthem is low on cash thanks to the cost of acquiring and running a pro wrestling promotion.
It looks like
at least one or two performers fans have seen on NXT will be debuting for Impact over the next week’s pay-per-view (PPV) and television filming in Ottawa. But one person who’s been a fixture of the former TNA going back to 2012,
British Boot Camp winner and former X-Division champion Rockstar Spud, is confirmed to have left the company.
PWInsider broke the news yesterday (Oct. 30), reporting Spud has been gone for two or three weeks now.
Pro Wrestling Sheet followed up, informing us the release was “merely a business decision” carried out at the performer’s request.
It’s not terribly surprising news. Anthem doesn’t seem to be looking to hand out raises right now for whatever reason, and Spud hasn’t been used much lately. He blew off a weird feud with former WWE Superstar Hornswoggle in May.
Though “weird feud” could describe a lot of his run, the 34 year old Birmingham native always made the most of any and everything TNA asked him to do during his time with the company. Which makes
Ryan Satin’s item about WWE being interested in Spud intriguing. Pro Wrestling Sheet’s founder says he’s heard The ‘E would like to use the Brit on
205 Live, or possibly on
the planned King of the Ring United Kingdom show, if it happens.
WWE Network’s Tuesday night Cruiserweight showcase could be in for an infusion of talent, if
a separate report from PWInsider is correct. The site says moving Hideo Itami up from NXT to
205 Live has been discussed. Itami hasn’t been on our screens much lately despite being healthy, so plans “to move Itami up as soon as creative is in place” make sense.
