Though he's yet to be cast, word is the first bad guy Mike Colter's Luke Cage will face off against in Marvel and Netflix's TV series will be a character who should be very familiar to readers of the early Power Man comics: golden-grilled drug lord, Cornell Cottonmouth.

It seems the first villain Luke Cage (Mike Colter) will be squaring off against in his solo TV show will be one of the first he encountered in the pages of Power Man way back in 1974. Heroic Hollywood reports that Cornell Cottonmouth (not to be confused with the Serpent Society member) is going to be causing problems for Cage when Marvel's third Netflix series finally gets underway.

It sounds like he'll be introduced as a second tier baddie, working for the show's main antagonist, and may also have ties to Daredevil's Wilson Fisk. In the comics Cottonmouth has super strength and razor sharp golden teeth, but it remains to be seen if that'll carry over into live-action of course.

The only other detail we have on Luke Cage so far is that Cheo Hodari Coker (Southland, Ray Donovan) is on board as showrunner, but we should hear some official casting info pretty soon.

They will probably get the Rza Rector to play him with his non-acting self. :russ:

lol it definitely won't be Rza if the showrunner is Cheo Coker :francis:

Irate Rappers Give Journalists A Combat Beat; Music Press Is a Target Of Violence and Threats
Several black journalists said that artists assume they can get away with assaulting black writers but not white ones.

''These guys would never attack a white journalist,'' said Cheo Hodari Coker, a writer who says he was assaulted a few years ago by a member of the Wu-Tang Clan. ''Rappers are many things. They're ignorant but they're not stupid. They know they would go to jail, straight to jail.'' :mjcry:

Marvel’s ‘Luke Cage’: Alfre Woodard Cast In Key Role On Netflix Series

Marvel’s Luke Cage may has found his match. I’ve learned that Alfre Woodard is finalizing a deal to star opposite Mike Colter in Luke Cage, the third series in Marvel’s four-series package at Netflix.

Woodard will play a lead character listed on the breakdown as Minetta, a powerful woman in local politics who will have an impact on Luke Cage’s life. No one is commenting, but I hear she may actually be playing a version of Marvel villain Black Mariah, a nemesis to Luke Cage as well as Iron Fist. In the comics, she is a professional criminal and a drug dealer.

In Luke Cage, Mike Colter, who will be first introduced in the second Marvel series for Netflix, A.K.A. Jessica Jones, plays Cage, a wrongly accused man who, granted superstrength by a sabotaged experiment, escapes prison to become a superhero for hire.

Cheo Hodari Coker serves as executive producer and showrunner on the series, produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.

Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Woodard, repped by ICM Partners and Circle of Confusion, recently co-starred on NBC’s State of Affairs and recurred on TNT’s The Last Ship. She is currently seen in the feature Mississippi Grind.
