The UFC touches down in Paris for the first time in the organization’s history after the chaos that was UFC 278 two weeks ago. After a long political battle, MMA was finally legalized in France in 2020. The Accor Arena will host the first UFC event in Paris.
The No. 1 ranked heavyweight, France’s own Ciryl Gane, will take on the No. 3 ranked Tai Tuivasa. Gane is coming off a unanimous decision loss to the current champion Francis Ngannou. Sydney’s Tuivasa is riding a five-fight win streak (all finishes), most recently knocking out former title challenger Derrick Lewis. In the co-main event, former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker faces Italy’s Marvin Vettori.
How much local talent will be on the card?
A lot of international talent fills this card, but five local fighters will be feeding off the crowd this weekend. Ciryl Gane, Fares Ziam, and Nassourdine Imavov all fight out of France, but Paris locals William Gomis and Benoit Saint-Denis have been waiting for this moment their whole lives. Gomis will also be making his UFC debut, so this will be extra sweet for him.
What time does UFC Paris start in the United States?
UFC fans in the states will be able to watch this event live as an afternoon card on ESPN+.
