I agree he's slowed down, but looking at his performances in retrospect I'd lean Khabib heavily 2017-present and still have it as a tossup before that.

Had Tony looked good against Oliveira I'd still have no confident idea since his fight w/ Gaethje wasn't much of a grappling battle.
I never felt like Tony really had a chance against Khabib. Tony lacked the power to keep Khabib from taking him down. Despite what a lot of people say it would have been an easy win for Khabib.

Yeah, I feel like Khabib didn't have the intimidation factor back then. His wrestling gained such an aura that dudes began to get progressively more timid when exchanging on the feet to avoid the TD.

That's not to say his striking didn't improve (cause it did) but I do think Tony had a much better chance a few years back :yeshrug:

It's not that relevant now though, in most peoples' eyes Khabib won the war without there even having to be a battle.

Agree tony always struck me as a slippery bjj guy and the tend to get mauled by strong power wrestlers

Im still having trouble adjusting to Olivera being legit lol

Size and strength matters. If strikes were allowed that bjj black belt would have been seriously hurt. Bas rutten of course would take the w as well as more experienced ones but this ain't magic. Then again haftor is an anomaly and a genetic freak

i don’t know breh, he wasn’t really rolling like a black belt. Who knows maybe that strength played a big factor but I didn’t see the black belt put up much of a fight.

Strength definitely. That guy has almost 200 lbs on him and has the deadlift record. Bjj is very effective but not magic so someone like that get side control issa wrap. Experienced ones will know to avoid that shyt and wear him down. Upper body subs would be hard to pull off this mf neck the size of a trunk :mjlol:
Probably go for the leg locks.
Remember Bob sapp almost broke nogueira's neck using pure strength and that's a world class 230 lbs athlete/jiu jitsu wiz. So he had to adapt there to take him out. But again these people like sapp and haftor are genetic anomalies so their strength way above what the majority encounter so much so its own martial art :mjlol:
Not sloppy like yarborough just raw power
Its all about adapting and using what works
