I disagree. From reading the pieces about his move he's going up in weight the right way. He's not just not cutting weight and tryna do the same things. He's genuinely transitioning. He's going to look like a different person at heavyweight, like Overeem.
Overeem is a bad example because he was juiced to the gills when he moved up.

I don't follow a ton of Muay Thai but he and Buakaw are pretty much the only two Thai guys that I know anything about. If I'm ever in the mood to watch any Thai videos I usually watch some of their highlights or sparring sessions.
Yeah if you ever in the mood check this out

Not really. Whether juiced or not, the thought process is the same. Overeem did not do what Gus did, which is move up to heavyweight by just not cutting weight. He committed to being a heavyweight. There was no going back. That's one difference between a successful transition or getting beaten up by bigger/stronger guys.

Jones at HW is not going to be 205lb Jon Jones who just didn't lose some weight. He's going to be a 230lb-250lb dude with the genuine muscle mass and composition of a world class athlete that size. I don't think "can he deal with HWs" is going to be much of a question as he's going to be just as big, or even bigger, than the dudes he's facing.

He and Miocic are the same height. Stipe is the naturally stronger dude as far as we know going by their last fights when a chicken legged Jones made 205lbs, but if a fully developed 240lb Jon Jones is in there with him whenever they do face then that given assumption goes out of the window.

I feel you. Charles just seems better on the ground and got the cred to show for it. That beating Tony took is career altering shyt. He got hit with everything. In fact the only thing he didn't get hit with was his own healthbar. I'm curious to see how he looks he can def come back like errol spence but I aint fully certain. Its gotta be frustrating as hell to go on that long streak and not get a title fight because of weird shyt
Yeah, there was a jab near the very end that Tony ate from Justin where he looked like a wounded animal or something with how he reacted. Disturbing shyt. He's not a spring chicken either. He seems like a freak of nature but time and mileage do get everyone eventually.

Charles' streak just seems so eerily like Tony's. I also think an X-factor is that Charles' win streak has occurred within a 2.5 year time-span. He's been a lot more active than most (if not all) 155ers in that time. I'm not sure how much of an advantage that'll be, but it doesn't hurt him.

Tony's best days are behind him imo. I felt like he got hit way too much in previous fights but that Gaethje fight was the last straw. That type of damage is lasting and with the way Tony fights, I don't see him surviving too many more fights.

Sadly I feel this way too. I remember after BJ Penn lost to Nick Diaz, I remember thinking that was the kind of fight that BJ probably wouldn't rally from. And there were obviously other factors there too, so it's not a perfect analogy. BJ was dealing with an evolving fight game that was passing him by, and fighting guys outside of his natural weight, and also an unhealthy personal life.

But there are just certain fights where I get a bad feeling that the fighter won't ever be quite the same, and I definitely have that feeling with Tony. I actually had it before the Justin fight. I thought Tony earned the right to sit and wait for Khabib. But him agreeing is kind of a big reason why I love Tony. Same here. I think he's kind of dumb for agreeing to a fight this weekend with very little upside to it, but I respect Tony's warrior mentality.

This is such a brutal sport if you're truly a fan of anyone. On a long enough timeline you'll always see your favorite fighter get beat the fukk up. GSP is pretty much the only legend I can think of that made it out of the game relatively unscathed on their way out the door. Edit: And I actually wouldn't say that if he hadn't come back to fight Bisping, because he got tagged up in the Hendricks fight.
