Laid down a quick 20 minute follow-up to Korean Zombie bodying Frankie Edgar. Waxed poetic on how KZ became beloved for brawling in WEC and has grown MASSIVELY as a technical fighter. Then we followed up on the discussion of who should get the next title shot Max or Zombie along with why we think Volkanovski's performance against Max has been blown out of proportion. Check us out fam.

Side note on the Volk vs Max fight: We rewatched it right after Zombie beat Frankie and something that jumped off the screen to me...The unofficial strike numbers they were showing were way off compared to the Fight Metric tallies that I pulled the next day. I believe Fight Metric is the official one too right? Max outlanded to the head and body, heaviest strikes of the fight were Max's body blows and Volk's leg kicks were the only part of the striking where he clearly led.

Pretty nice breakdown

Gotta slightly disagree on the Max fight though. I rewatched it and I just cant see any argument against Volk taking the first 3 rounds. That means he had essentially already won, his corner was telling him he won every round too. That means Volk went into the last 2 rounds already thinking the fight was his, so in my opinion he stepped off the gas.

He didnt beat Max's ass, definitely not and Max can make adjustments for sure but its gonna be hard as long as he cant do more damage

Also yall believe in Ortegas overrated ass way too much :heh:

His best win is Frankie Edgar on short notice, hes proven nothing atall

I appreciate the listen fam! I definitely could see there being a debate as to how much Max made improvements vs Volk just playing it safer as the fight was going his way, especially after the fourth round discussion with his corner. I think Max crowding him more and landing some really nice body shots was the difference maker but Volk's corner definitely told him he was golden. At one point it sounded like he was asking whether he should push more and they told him that he was good enough to just mind his P's and Q's). I really want the rematch to watch for adjustments both sides make (one thing I didn't give credit to is that CKB has some really intelligent coaches and fighters who will make their own adjustemnts too).

On Ortega, my crib has a definite bias toward BJJ players. I can't even front about it ...I got T-City right around 4/5 in the division but with a "puncher's chance" against anyone in the form of forcing a scramble and getting the choke. I think Zombie, Volk and Max are all comfortably ahead. Yair might edge him but it's close because I think they're one trip to the mat away Ortega winning. And then I've lost all faith in Zabit lasting 5 rounds with any of these guys until he proves me wrong.
