UFC needs a star and fast..thus isn't like 7 years ago or so where you had Silva, Jones, GSP, Hughes, Lidell, Lesnar and if a card was cancelled you had other in the stable

I still don't understand why the UFC doesnt have a backup fighter ready, they have the cash
Even if they did I doubt Ferguson would take the fight, AJ did the same when DC pulled out of their fight. I don't understand how one could invest all that time and money into training camp then when the fight falls through you don't feel unfulfilled. These dudes are basically like cool, we'll get him next time, mindblown

:hhh:

It's actually easy to understand. Rumble and Ferguson have very little to gain and a lot to lose by taking a short notice fight. Both have pretty much guaranteed title shots, why gamble that on a short notice fight? As mentioned, Ferguson was more than willing to fight MJ. The UFC in typical scumbag fashion tried to give him less money. Ferguson is not even asking for more money, he just wants the same amount he was going to get fighting Khabib.

Listening to Ferguson talk to Megan they don't get show money well he didn't anyway and nor should he. No way cheapskate UFC rewards a fighter money (anyway) after they just refused to take a fight to save them some face. That what I don't get, with no sponsors you would think these cats would be more like Cormier at ufc 200 but they are all like :ehh:

you are looking at things through the eyes of how zuffa ran things, in today's UFC nothing is guaranteed. Ferguson is on a 9 fight win streak and I bet the average UFc fan can't name everyone he's beat en route to the number 1 contendeeship. That means his position isn't secure for shyt.

Johnson has low key cleaned out the LHW division so him not accepting anything but Cormier can be looked over, this Ferguson business is a different story.

he has a contract which he signed, somewhere between then and the announcement of the khabib fight he felt he deserved more. They worked out something for the interim fight only, now he's not fighting for the interim title so whatever fight he takes he's going to be paid what his contract states. There is nothing scumbag about it, when he wins the title then he can restructure his contract not before
Ferguson is not even asking for more money, he just wants the same amount he was going to get fighting Khabib.
that's retarded for the reason I just stated

I don't see how anyone can back the UFC in this situation.

Ferguson is not obligated to take a very short notice fight, especially against a very dangerous and game opponent like MJ. He was willing to take that risk and do the UFC a favor. The UFC in response pulled a scumbag move by playing hardball and offering him less money. :gucci:

I don't see the logic behind this move by the UFC. You're saving what? $40-50k in this situation. Is it really worth it?
