I loved the 24/7's. It felt way more natural and flowing to me than Showtime's cloning attempt. Can't top the original, baby.
As for the fight, I can see why many are picking Martinez. He's bigger, faster, slicker, and more athletic. But I don't want it to be seen as a total discredit to Cotto's talent or caliber, either. He ruptured Pacquiao's eardrum, pummeled Margarito into retirement (though it was set up by Pac) and even bloodied Floyd's nose. Plus, factor in the career he's had and the names he has beaten backs up Cotto as a sure fire HOFer.
And though I love watching Martinez fight, I can't deny that the purist in me winces a bit at his style. Hands low below the waist, head stuck in the air, and standing in a square. A style that can create excitement, but puts you at a supreme risk. I give credit to Sergio for being so magnificent in the ring and keeping his title, but with a near 40-year old who started at 20 and not earlier, as well as having 3 knee surgeries, you have to wonder when Father Time will finally catch up.
So, couple that with Cotto's terrific boxing skills, sledgehammer of a left hand, and the backing of Freddie Roach & Co., I'm picking Cotto to win this one. Either close UD or late stoppage. I expect Cotto to trap Martinez, dig at that body, and wear down an already aging body.
