Having finished the last 2 rounds and the finals now....what a bust. Better than the UK tournament in the sense that there were more than 2 talents (Bate and Dunne) that seemed like they should ever be even looked at by WWE (in this case, Storm/Sane/Jazzy Alpha/Rhea Ripley/Tessa Blanchard), but the match quality ranged from bad NXT weekly match to the best matches not even being some of the better NXT TV quality matches this year. Not even taking Takeovers or big Raw/SD/PPV matches.
I feel like all of them would have been better served just normally debuting in NXT instead of in a tournament format with higher than normal expectations where all the matches were short and 30 were taped in the course of 2 days in front of the same crowd, with the top ones working 4 matches in 2 days in the same place and crowd. The constant circle jerking off how important it is for women rang hollow when the matches were what they were, half the competitors were PC talents, and the winner of another WWE tournament was a second option because they couldn't get the person they really wanted for various reasons.
The lay out of a lot of the matches also sucked, with so many women using the same moves, finishers in one match being a regular move in another, 115 pound women doing spears, shyt like Piper being slammed and speared by Serena, Kairi physically dominating Dakota Kai, Baszler getting smashed by strikes/submission/throws by Candance and Mercedes, etc. I assume they just gave time limits and let them do whatever, because I find it hard to believe agents that are 15-30 year vets would tell the women to kill moves and gimmicks so regularly throughout the entire tournament.
A huge bust in comparison to CWC, slightly better than the UK Tournament, bleh as hell overall with the biggest stand outs being women who lost in the first or second rounds.
