When Sally Yeh moves into a haunted Hong Kong high-rise, who's she gonna call? Chow Yun Fat! Five years before their now-classic romantic pairing in The Killer, Yeh and Chow starred in this 1984 horror-comedy hybrid from director Ronny Yu (The Bride with White Hair). The Occupant's evenhanded mix of Creepy and Crazy foreshadows Yu's later work on American horror flicks like Bride of Chucky, and although Chow is operating largely in comedic mode, his role as a fearless police detective looks forward to his later heroic bloodshed collaborations with John Woo. But this is Sally Yeh's show, and her wonderful split-personality performance as a naive student of the supernatural possessed by the ghost of a sultry singing chanteuse is what ultimately makes the film a success. Sally stars as a wide-eyed Canadian college student named Angie, who comes to Hong Kong to do some field research for her study of Chinese superstitions. She gets a bit more than she bargained for when she rents an apartment haunted by the spirit of a spurned singer. As if fending off ghosts wasn't bad enough, Angie also has to deal with the unwanted affections of a sleazy con-man (Raymond Wong, All's Well Ends Well), as well as the sweet-talking detective (Chow) who vows to solve her supernatural case. Chow requires a little otherworldly help of his own after Angie's body is taken over by the ghost, who's hell-bent on reenacting the murder-suicide that ended her life!.

A man trying to run away from a personal tragedy finds out the hard way how much one of his best friends has changed in this action drama. While Bong respects Lau's abilities as a detective, he's wary of his friend's uncertain temper, and he has enough problems of his own to deal with after the suicide of his long-time girlfriend. Three years later, Bong has left the force to become a private investigator and has developed a serious drinking problem, while Lau is one of the top detectives with the Hong Kong police and has married Susan (Xu Jinglei), a respected reporter. Susan and Lau approach Bong and ask him for help with a case -- Susan's father Chow (Yueh Hua) was murdered, and while the team investigating the crime has found two of the men responsible, a third culprit is still at large. Bong agrees to help, but what he and Susan don't know is that Lau is the missing man who helped kill Chow, and he's playing an elaborate game of cat and mouse with his fellow police officers as well as his best friend.

There's laser and soundwave-fu, a pantomime pet dragon, flying spinning chainsaw-like knives, a foot that elongates and becomes a massive table-sized limb, a flying flattened-golden-Buddha burglar defense system, a Dragon-Tumor duo that features a midget-kid melting opponents with green acid from his tumor, an elaborate mechanical death-trap, and much more.

Probably Shaw Brothers' most over-the-top insane fantasy-fu flick with an endlessly rapid pace of wild and varied magical fight scenes that rival Stephen Chow at his craziest.

Heng and his men have also entered the building, getting ready to take out their foes at any minute. Meanwhile, in order to beat the media at its own game, Inspector Rebecca (Kelly Chen) decides to turn the stakeout into a breaking news show. Entering the building accompanied by officers with wireless cameras atop their helmets, she promises to feed live footages of their operation to the media. The whole of Hong Kong is glued to their TV sets, eager to devout the latest action in real time. Oblivious to them all, the building is occupied by yet another gang. Attacked from both sides, Heng's team suffer from serious casualties but Rebecca doctors her footage, reporting nothing but good news. Only when Yuan has taken some residents hostage and releases the close-circuit TV footage to the news stations is she forced to release the true footage to the public in all its gory details. As time drags on, the two gangs are considering forging an alliance, while Rebecca keeps negotiating with Yuan, urging him to capitulate. But all along she has no idea how Yuan or Heng looks like. When she mistakes Yuan for Heng after the latter successfully rescues the hostages, Yuan decides to use his news identity not only to escape but to romance the beautiful cop as well...
