Knicks Interested In Greene?

Donte Greene says he is on the Knicks' radar.

The former Sacramento Kings forward and current free agent said in a recent radio interview that the Knicks are among three teams who have expressed interest in signing him.

Greene told TheCDNetworks.com, a Sacramento internet radio show, that he is in talks with Chicago, New York and Indiana. He called the trio his "top three" possible free-agent destinations.

"Anybody could pop up at any time," Greene told the radio show on Friday. "But those are the three that we're focusing on and trying to work out and get a deal done."

Greene, a 2008 first-round pick, has averaged 6.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 16.8 minutes per game over a four-year career.

The Kings declined to offer Greene a $2.5 million qualifying offer this summer, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Greene has had an up-and-down NBA career. He has a career field goal percentage of 40.6 percent, and has made just 30.4 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Reports out of Sacramento indicate that the 6-foot-11 Greene was never able to perform on defense the way his coaches had hoped.

According to Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee, Greene also relied too heavily on the 3-point shot instead of attacking the rim, to the dismay of the Kings' staff.

The Knicks have had recent success with tall forwards who can knock down the outside shot (see Williams, Shawne and Novak, Steve), but Greene hasn't shown that he can do that. And furthermore, the role of reserve perimeter shooter is already filled by Novak.

In addition, Greene's lack of success on the defensive end, on the surface, would seem to make him less attractive to Mike Woodson & Co.

That being said, many believe the Knicks will add a reserve forward before Opening Night.

They have 13 guaranteed contracts, and in theory can add two more to get to the maximum roster allotment of 15.

STAT And Javale Mcgee Working Out With OlajuwonToday

If these guys can get anywhere close to the footwork and post moves of Hakeem then they're scary. Both have the extra motivation this year to get better, it's just a question of how much can they incorporate into their game this off season.

On a sidenote, I think JaVale is going to have a breakout year, seems like he's committed to getting better and George Karl is good at developing talent and managing headcases. Alright, that's enough props for the Nuggets :hmm:
