Mal is needed for Joe’s purposes, believe it or not. It gives Joe that extra layer of comfortability, and he allows Joe to get alotta jokes off (good ones typically) whether they’re towards Mal or not. We saw that dynamic shift when Mal joined the podcast.
Mal just needs to understand that maybe he’s not informed on every topic to debate or opine on it. The same way Parks and Rory don’t speak up on certain things, he needs to do the same.
And I wouldn’t be surprised if Joe loves that Mal’s takes are controversial because it makes Joe look a bit smarter sometimes. I don’t think Mal’s dense takes are going to make them lose fans because the rest usually disagree, and explain to him why he’s wrong. If they all felt the way Mal does about certain shyt, then yes that’d be bad for business.
