He deserved to get his back kicked in last time too. Netlflix came to dude about a reboot and he said it should be my story about how I came up :mjlol:

fukk everybody else huh

He’s not on good terms with the rest of the cast especially Carl and Harriet as they treated him badly when he was a kid and became the star of the show. He’s spoken about how Urkel was supposed to just be a one time guest star and he ended up becoming the literal star of the show replacing Carl and Harriet and the jealousy led them to treating him bad so its been “fukk everybody else” for years in his mind.

Living Single isnt a hood show. I wouldn't classify Martin as a hood show either. I've seen ppl say Martin is "blacker" than Fresh Prince, but that is more like a class issue thing the shows differ on and not Martin being a hood show. Martin, to me, was closer to black shyt/relatable than Fresh Prince. Baby Boy is hood shyt.

Jaleel on bullshyt tho. I guarantee you Fresh Prince is in the top 3 of those polls and that isnt a hood show. I feel like Wayans Bro/Jamie Foxx Show/ My Wife and Kids would rank higher in those same "favorite black show" polls and they arent hood either imo.

He’s absolutely wilding about that bullshyt. Family Matters isn’t held in higher regard frankly for two reasons.

The later seasons of the show were absolute horse shyt. As the show focused more and more on Urkle as he grew up the storylines got dumber and dumber and the heart of the first 4 seasons was overshadowed by goofy writing as they kept trying to outdo themselves with Urkle hijinks.

Nobody from the show ever broke out FROM the show and went on to do bigger and better things. Will Smith went onto to become one of the most successful movie stars who ever lived which helps Fresh Prince’s legacy. Martin Lawrence went onto to become a huge star which helps Martin’s legacy. Queen Latifah went onto become an Oscar nominated multi-hyphenate which helps Living Single’s legacy. Meanwhile Jaleel White will always be known as Urkel forever even though he’s managed to carve a career as a voice actor and doing guest spots on sitcoms.

U right about everything else but Jaleel White is gonna be Urkel forever based on how well he acted that role. Regardless of how good or not good the show was. For a kid his character acting was TOP NOTCH. His transformation from Steve to Stefan the first time was wild af cause it literally looked like his face was changing. Great actor.

Its not a knock on him that he acted his ass off as that character. He literally saved the show from being cancelled. Its just that he was never able to transition from Urkel to anything else memorable or long lasting. You can tell from the few guest acting spots he’s done over the years that his comedic timing is as good as ever. Hell even when he was voicing Sonic The Hedgehog in the 90’s his timing as a voice actor was on point. Still doesn’t change the fact that, like Alfonso Reibero and Dustin Diamond, he was just TOO good as that one character to ever break out from it.

Californ-i-a by way of BK
shyt, none of the classic Black sitcoms from the late 80s/90s are hood shows imo. Of the shows that reached syndication and are held in high regard Family Matters just aged the worst out of all of them imo, as an adult that shyt is really unwatchable to me.
Martin might be classified as Hood

Unless nikkas are saying "Hood" to mean thugged out or ghetto, then no, I agree.

But if by Hood they just mean relatable content to nikkas from the hood, based off the type of jokes they told, the style they had, the area they lived in on the show, etc...then it might be.

Put it like this, I used to be uncomfortable watching Martin in front of my grandma because of how they talked and the episode concepts. I never felt that way about the Cosby Show for example.

Agreed. I'm wondering if dude is classifying a hood show as the focus being that they are living in the hood and broke like Good Times.

I judge it more based off the audience it was tailored to. Martin and Living Single was definitely targeted towards black audiences. Family Matters was trying to be a poor man's Cosby Show targeted more towards kids and a crossover audience. Like even Fresh Prince, even though they had money they made sure to let you know Uncle Phil and the first Aunt Viv were still hood born and bred. I don't recall Family Matters having those moments.

Man they say he was a dikk, he say they treated him bad. The truth probably lies in the middle.

Truth is dude still seems like a dikk.

So I’m rolling with Harriet and Carl on this one
