How can anyone ride with Rory and Mal after this?
Granted, they landed on their feet, but Joe is 100% right about all of this.
he knows what he's talking about and was proven right in the end:
How was he proven right though? He basically said the same thing he always says without getting specific. It sounds like he planned on something happening, it didn’t happen and now he’s out of options.
He said he turned down the 20 million because Spotify had too many demands. Ok fair, then he says he was relying on Apple subscriptions, for what? Idk..he doesn’t really go into it, then says that didn’t work out for Apple so he went back to pitching the JBN to different companies again and every offer fell through, probably because all the mess he was in around that time and no one had the money to offer what he was asking for.
What I said before was spot on, he tried to create the Joe Budden Network to pitch as a package deal when he didn’t get the type of money he wanted for the singular show. Basically tried to do what Bill Simmons did with The Ringer, and he used the additional money the podcast was still making at the time to re-invest into the network. Rory and Mal wasn’t cool with the JBN stuff and didn’t think Joe investing in those other podcast was lucrative for them.
Rory even says on The Thing Is… back when he was still on the pod that “podcasting wasn’t his ambition” and that “he didn’t agree with starting a network” or somethign to that degree because it was clear he didn’t agree with what Joe was doing. Pretty much the house of cards joe was stacking for a big pay day tumbled down and everyone pretty much left. Now its back to the drawing board with ice and ish basically doing what they were before the Spotify deal.
Joe will probably never get offered 20 million again for anything he has currently. Its just like how he tried to pitch an AK show, his show, and come up with two more shows to complex and they weren’t interested in it. I’m not gonna say he overvalued himself cause thats just small minded shyt to think, but Joe’s business acumen just isn’t there and Ian seems equally incompetent at negotiating deals.
If Joe had better management and advisors in his corner he’d probably be in a much better situation but again, the kind of person Joe is doesn’t allow for that to happen.
