I'm confused why is he mad?
I guess because he felt Ish/Surf were having a "side convo" when Joe tried to get his lil story off.
Thing is, he sorta cut Ish off from talking about Aaron to go on his own side tangent/convo. :manny:

The way Ish said "Don't say nothing(to Surf), do your thing(to Joe)" was funny as hell. :mjlol:

With the reports of Drake signing a new deal, looks like we got the main topic for Wednesday's pod :whoo:
Speculation on how much it's worth moneywise.
Speculation on the details(does it involve stuff outside of music?)
Masters
Why he didnt go independent?
Should he have gone independent?
What wouldve happened if he went independent?

Most mainstream artists dont wanna deal with what comes with being independent. If someone else (the label) can front the bill or set up certain appearances or put the artist in certain rooms. They’ll choose that option over doing it all themselves having to make their own team and pay them out of pocket.

Fans think independent means the artist owns the music instead of the label

independent really means everything that it takes to make and sell music is paid for out of the artist pockets

things like studio time and features are paid out of the artist pocket instead of the budget provided by the label

On unsung, Shanice said her and flex went broke trying to support her being an independent artist. They had to pay for stuff like plane rides to go collab with artist and if no music comes out of it you still had to pay all that money. If you have a record deal that stuff is provided

Yeah, you'll most likely never see an artist as big as Drake go independent, almost entirely for promo exposure reasons alone. It's a whole lot easier to create a situation where the artist's music seems to be everywhere before and after release when you have a label paying for all that.

Labels are in the business of selling music and they know how to do that very well

I think a lot of people think “advance” means you have to pay the label too

Harlow is doing 80k to 100k

Parks thinks Harlow is doing 250k :dead:

EDIT: I agree with Ice, no one cares about the life of a project anymore. They want the album to pop, get all the headlines, then get the touring and appearances and branding and go chill. We’re not even getting singles released months after the album anymore.
