Folks harp on supposed gentrification but it was a Black mayor, Kasim Reed, who developed the city for the rich. Bottoms is just an extension of that.
OTOH, Mary Norwood surely does not have the interest of poor and middle class Blacks, either.

Black politicians should be pushing for more areas to be incorporated under Fulton county and expanding transit.
Instead, Black politicians in this city fight over who gets what government contracts to enrich their families and friends.
What I see happening, though, is more balkanization and smaller cities like South Fulton and Stonecrest popping up in the future.
Vincent would have been perfect for Black Atlanta but the Atlanta I knew in politics was all White. Democrat and GOP. They tended to be team white supremacy and had the money and power for it as well.
Black people never had a shot in Atlanta. They let us think we were good in Atlanta but go to any job fair, more nikkas than anywhere else. Sad too cause only few getting hired.

Truth is, Atlanta was the Mecca in the 90s. They jailed, abort and killed a lot of us but they gave us business loans, businesses and a lot of us made 6 figures and more. It was sweet for some and not for others but this new Atlanta, it sucks. It has the social status but the reality is bleak for a lot of Black folks.

True. Black mayors are mainly symbolic figures. At the end of the day they answer to the big money guys.
They are more than symbolic. Ask Black contractors are they symbolic. Ask Black gay Atlanta are they symbolic. Ask a lot of these BW organizations in Atlanta are they symbolic.
They have helped Blacks in Atlanta. The issue is, it's like white supremacists. They help some but leave most in the cold. Atlanta was giving gay nikkas illusions but if they lose, Black gay Atlanta is over. Them nikkas gonna get Portland like what happened to gays in the Bay Area. White supremacists don't let gays stay at a place too long
