1 thing I really hate about my 5 is that while I'm at work(where I've always had shytty signal strength) my phone will switch to Edge and it will stay on it until I reboot it even though I've moved to strong coverage area. With my 3G, 4 and 4S I never had to do that, they always switched back on their on.

never heard of anyone having that problem maybe you should give them a call
I remember before when we had problem with connections the solution was to put phone on airplane mode then reboot, afterwards turn off airplane mode or to reset network settings
that was for WiFi problems but it may work for you as well
you can also, if jailbroken, install SBSSettings and have an airplane mode toggle so you can quickly reacquire the 3G/4G signal
