It's not even about "white" approval. Its about recognition for a masterful piece of art.
If it was about approval from black folks then the BET Awards or the Source awards woulda been our Grammys, but it isnt. I would argue that the BET, NAACP and the ilk are just as rigged as the Grammys. People aren't digging in the crates for real rappers, or digging online. These awards are just about who's hot or who's elite. If Pitchfork was in charge of the grammys you nikkas would be sick of Kanye winning, talking about how Yeezus wasn't better than other albums.
No matter what there will be debate, the issue that most black folks have with Macklemore and other whites when it comes to Hip-Hop is that they don't see or won't address the fact that IT IS rigged. So I applaud Macklemore for the message, but i think it woulda had more impact if Kendrick himself woulda posted it...cuz right now it just looks like white guilt.
