That red bull in vettels era was not as dominant
Not as dominant as this current car, but it was still the dominant car of the era.

Everyone expected them to be the leaders in the new engine era and Mercedes blew them out of the water.

All that to say, horner has been here before and dropped the ball in the next era, he isn't as invincible as folks paint him out to be, he just has red bulls billions at his disposal.

It happened to Horner as well.

Remember the Vettel era and what happened after.

I think Merc are hamstrung by the cmfact they can no longer throw infinite resources at a problem due to the cost cap

The bolded is the problem. Cost/dev time caps made it so the no sidepods problem is more of a multi year issue, whereas they probably would've had it solved by this year's testing, if not mid season before.

Doubled up with the fact that they have less allotments by virtue of finishing third in constructors last year, and they're probably not going to be more than a solid threat for third (or second, if Stroll keeps fukking around) until next year at the overly optimistic earliest.

This isn't going to get any faster. Verstappen goes first and wins.
