Didn't treat Jensen Button that way when he moved to Monaco. Never saw him being asked to justify his britishness.
And yeah, the British media are a$$holes, Jonathon Mcevoy of the daily mail springs to mind, but there has always been a double standard when it comes to Hamilton.
IMO the reason why Lewis get the Britishness thing thrown at him because he embraces American culture a lot and that he lives outside of the UK in a tax free haven, people feel he isn't a British enough. It's all completely BS, but a$$holes will be a$$holes and are set in their ways
Phil Collins and Sean Connery gotten shyt for living in Tax Havens from the media. Ian Botham probably the most famous English cricketer got shyt for living in Jersey. And this man raised millions and millions for charities.
No one really cares about Button like that. Never as loved as Mansell or Damon Hill were at their prime.
Apart from in Scotland for the first part of their careers Coulthard and Andy Murray weren't particularly loved by the British/English media. DC survived the plane crash and Murray won Wimbledon and things changed.
The British don't like its own people showing off sporting arrogance aka you know you're good and you show it off.
Nick Faldo isn't particularly liked either.
