I understand why Chelsea went for Lukaku given his history with the club, but they could have deployed Havertz as the striker for the season with Werner as backup and put all of their eggs into the Haaland basket in the summer.

Thats like 4/5 games without a goal now but Chelsea keep winning despite his lack of goals so he can escape the slander. Must be nice.

Chelsea don't challenge for the title or repeat the CL Tuchel probably getting sacked. He needed the striker. You cannot have Jorginho as your top scorer and think that's good enough to go up vs Salah Mane and whatever 5-6 players has hit double digits for Citeh. Chelsea have the players who should be able to do what Citeh do but it's really only 2 attacking players they use minus Mount who will always start.

Came in to say the goals don't tell thw whole story. Whenever I've tuned in I've seen good hold up play.. Should have a couple of assists too but Werner gon Werner

Even last night he won the first penalty Jorginho converted... That was about to be a Lukaku goal

Not really a question for you but wanted to add on to your point. Haven't seen Chelsea since the Citeh game. But is Lukaku effecting the games when he isn't scoring?

I've only seen a couple of those games in full and he's definitely making an impact and being a handful for defenders but we know that's not usually the metric for £100m attackers.
