Argentina legend Diego Maradona has hit out at compatriot Lionel Messi, saying the Barcelona star is not a leader on the pitch and should not be considered a football god.

Maradona, who along with Brazil's Pele, is widely regarded as one of the best players of all time, claims Messi is one player at his club Barcelona and a different one with Argentina.

"We shouldn't deify Messi any longer," Maradona said in an interview with Fox Sports. "He's Messi when he plays for Barcelona. Messi is Messi when he wears that shirt and he's another Messi with Argentina."

"He's a great player but he's not a leader. It's useless trying to make a leader out of a man who goes to the toilet 20 times before a game."

After winning the World Cup in 1998 France drew against Iceland 1-1 in a friendly game,2 years later they won the Euros,after winning the World Cup in 2010 Spain lost to Argentina 4-1,drew against Mexico 1-1 and lost to Portugal 4-0,and 2 years later they also won the Euros. :what:

Why don't you learn football history instead of acting like a football expert? :patrice:

I'm just saying it's not a good look for a WC winning team being outplayed, despite having the ball 60% of the time, by a team who's second/third best player plays for Burnley and right back who plays for a semi-professional football club.

Was it a good look for Spain to lose 4-1 against Argentina and 4-0 against Portugal? :aicmon:


Football history teaches you that it doesn't mean anything yet you're still saying it's not a good look,these other teams should have proved their worth at the World Cup not after,the World Cup is over :mindblown:
