You can see why Chezzer takes no responsibility for his area or defense.

It runs in the family.

I used to think players turned out the way they are because of being put in a team set up where individuality maybe discouraged but those set ups have been around for a while. I also think countries have their own football culture that used to provide so much diversity in terms of the football philosophy. It is surprising that Argentina could churn out so many smallish number 10 types when other countries struggle to produce one.

The standard model is now the big European leagues and players are moving at even younger ages than they used to. It maybe Mikel being turned into a DM or even Yaya and Seydou Keita being converted but it seems there are preconceived notions about what positions certain players should have outside of their own attributes. Now everyone seems to think the Barca/Spain model is the best so we might see an emphasis on copying that style regardless of the players' ability. Ajax is one of the few clubs to have been a model for other teams to copy in youth football and after their 2003 team with Zlatan,Sneijder,VDV,DeJong they have had comparatively less success in holding on to players and developing a team.

Outside of Ibra the rest of those Ajax players have been disappointing, yeah WWW won with Inter back in 2010, but if we really look at his career, hes underachieved barring that 1 great year.

Ill still say that Ajax is still the best model as that's what Barcas is based on and what the football philosophy has been at the club since the 70s. This whole tika taka thing really works for one team and how often is a club goin to be blessed with having 7-8 very good 1st team players all come thru the ranks in a 3-4 year period who have been playin with each other for 10+ years. The only thing close to this is Ajax and United back in the 90s.

everytime frush or anyone here says football players aint as good anymore i just :snoop::rudy:

the globalization of the game has taken away the "aura" of some players and nowadays everything is covered and seen unlike before...to me if anything i dont remember seeing that many good players ever talent wise..the game has evolved and like kunty says there is more games now and squad rotation is a MUST...

the problem( to me is a blessing) is that Messi/CR7 are once in a generation players and are a level above everyone else and it takes away from other great players that in other eras would be considered great or the best...when modern football (late 70's/ early 80's) "started" tell me how many players would score as many goals as say messi or cr7? they make it look easy but tell me what great players were scoring as many goals and making it look easy like them after "modern" football started? people were amazed when the R9 scored around 40 for Barca once but messi has done that for years and people are so spoiled nowadays by the likes of messi that when he doesnt score its a travesty/worst thing ever..

what globalization also did is the professionalism of football nowadays is much higher than before...shyt teams/countrys are more competitive/ or harder to break down do to the technological/medical/training advancements in soccer...the game was slower and there was more space back then but it has to do with what i stated above...now there isnt enough "space" but that has to do with the fact there is better training/athletes even in shyt countries/teams...also there is more "specialist" than before too but it has to do with the "space" on the pitch and tactical advancments made..

@Hollister , @KingHurst
Suarez open to Liverpool exit - Goal.com

i said it a few months ago that he would most likely leave and hes earned that right...its not his fault he hasnt been surrounded by the quality he deserves to be around...he could have left last season but stayed loyal and stayed..he gives his everything in every ball so his desire cant be questioned unlike other players that left before (owen,torres)..im sure some of the fans might turn on him but what is he supposed to do? stay and run himself to the ground and do everything for the bums that surround him to make it to the EL?

:ahh: it's only chic for the c*nts who are cynical about the game or dont love to see their country play. or they could be european and have to put up with garbage like kazakhstan vs moldova every time around.

honduras vs mexico is probably the most interesting game in the world tomorrow

france/spain
mexico/usa
uruguay/chile on tuesday
