"Chancellor Angela Merkel’s move to tighten protections for German companies from foreign takeovers gained final approval in parliament on Thursday, amid concern about potential acquisitions by firms bankrolled by China and other nations.

Economy Minister Peter Altmaier, a close Merkel ally, told lawmakers before the vote that the screening legislation is not meant to impede investment into Europe’s biggest economy, but to help shield key German companies, including those that may be more vulnerable due to the fallout from the coronavirus.

“Our hidden champions, our small and mid-sized companies, and firms that are temporarily suffering because of the coronavirus pandemic, should not all become defenseless takeover targets,” Altmaier told lawmakers in the Bundestag in Berlin.

“We want to know what is happening, we want to know who is behind potential investors,” he added. “Not all those who want to invest have equally honest intentions.”

The law will enable the government to block acquisitions that present “potential interference,” a lower threshold than previous rules that envisage a security threat. It also lowers the minimum for scrutinizing investments in the health-care sector. Deals involving a stake of at least 10% will be examined, compared with 25% previously.

The shyt was over as soon as the Oligarchs and Sheiks got involved.

The thing about soccer is it's NOT the NBA or NFL. It's more akin to college sports here in the states where there's 100+ years of history and small schools knock off big ones all the time in the NCAA tournament. But College Football is trash because we can count on our hands how many programs can even contend....it's fukking boring.

Relegation was the last bastion of what felt like "fairness" in the sport. The players are going to go...FLAT OUT. No one's gonna go play for Southampton and an EPL title when they can go ride the bench for AC Milan and make 4x as much.

If I was FIFA I'd do even more. No transfers to the super league either. You wanna make a super league..you make it YOUR LEAGUE you cannot have any of our players.

I've never even seen American sports shyt on their own history in such a disgusting way like this.

Man City should've been banned last year for all that bullshyt they did over the years. Shut your bytch ass up. @Yayo Toure

All our clubs are corrupt scumbags, we're supposed be in this bullshyt together :mjlol:

Banned? Because the execs from Liverpool, Juventus, United, PSG etc decided that City should be banned? CAS threw that BS out.

Every club is scummy, but this superleague idea is from Perez and the Americans who want to hire gym teachers as managers, buy fridges to play centerback, and still want a guaranteed place in the most elite competition.

The premier league bends over backwards for Liverpool and United, and this is what they come up with. Americans came to England to destroy football.

But hey, City are the bad guys. Meanwhile the Glazers take another dividend payment out.

Can someone explain what happens with players contract if FIFA decides to kick these club out? Could the be a loophole in which a player is no longer contracted with a club because essentially they are not a professional football team anymore? At least during the time the Superleague is official and FIFA gives them the :camby:
