Its not really unpopular. Its the growing talk that he's holding Barca back. It would be ridiculous to say if Messi leaves that team plays better. Simply doesn't. Its years of bad management and recruiting been covered by Messi coming home to roost. Now he isn't able to paper over cracks anymore, he is now seen as the problem.
Feel like they should have sold him to get the fee and his wages of the books. Sounds crazy but they are a mess right now.

Not mad, Willian to score. World missing out on Ndombele vs Partey

David Luiz played 30 minutes with a head injury and hasn’t been seen since. Like maybe it wasn’t smart to have him continue.

Of course he's the problem. Messi has been lazy for the past 4-5 years. It was masked because Neymar and Suarez would do the running for him which allowed him to be free. Once Xavi left and Iniesta got old, Barca lost their dominance and control of the midfield and the problems he has with Argentina, started to show themselves at Barca. Then when Neymar went and Suarez legs went it became more obvious. Then the main focus was on him to create. You cannot play 33 year old Messi as the false 9, unless you have runners around him and besides Fati and Braithwaite. Dembele, Coutinho and Griezmann want to take up the same sort of positions as Messi does. Messi wants and needs the ball to be involved, because that's what he has always done. C dot is happy to chill and not be involved in the attack until the last moment.

Messi's problem is the same as Gooney, cannot play in isolation for long periods without the ball. That's why Gooney tried to reinvent himself as a midfielder, so he could be on the ball more.
Where do they play him? 442? or do they switch to 3 at the back to load up the middle? He's not content if he's doesn't touch the ball damn near all the time. I mean that's why forced Pep to play him as a 9 and get rid of all the players that would lessen his touches.

Koeman with his direct football is quite possibly the worst possible manager Barcelona could have hired :dead: I'm sure Messi regrets getting Luis Enrique outta there.

At this point its ego, and stubbornness.

Or Xhaka has some weird clause in his contract.

Why wouldnt elneny get a nod. Even ceballos
Is arteta on crack?

Don't get it, Elneny has had some good games against Spurs. I think Arteta is thinking Spurs won't have that much of the ball, so no need for a disruptor like Elneny.

That's the thinking. Son and Kane are more counter attacking threats. However, Xhaka ALWAYS worries me... especially in a derby.
Bale is also a wild card.

I think going with the back three is good. Even better with Laca at the #9 and Auba wide. When Arsenal look their best this is the line up.
