I see that fukker Lee Foss on my facebook/instagram every day and his jetsetter lifestyle yet people would struggle to know who he is outside of the internet and exclusive clubs.

And even then, Foss is a label head, a headliner at every major club in the world, and one-half of Hot Natured which has a major deal on Warner Bros. Dude is definitely in the millions category amd he's a C+, maybe B- celebrity PURELY in the DJ world. F- list in the rest of the universe. You can be exponentially less successful than him and still live nicely off of the game,

I think that Instagram, Meetic and the likes do to the common people what TV and Movies did to famous ones : building a perfect image to the outside world. For example, take Cameron Diaz which was in her prime a decade ago but who's still is cute (from my POV at least). Well, a dude I know "met" her (as in she was partying next to him) at some club a few years back and he told me she had hella acne and was up close. On top of that, she looked way older than the movie/tv image he had of her and was disappointed by the "encounter".

A lot of these famous dimes simply don't exist. As in the image we see, we know of them isn't real. Make up, photoshop, lightning, proper clothing and all that create a perfect image which sells but also alienates a gang of women into thinking their idols are perfection when they are just lies. Instagram in that matter is king though. The amount of (arty) filtering in most of the displayed pics is mind boggling.
