Would it be wrong to suggest that a big part of it is that it's also harder for the top of table teams to run off wins in this league because the mid-table teams are so wealthy now and have more dangerous squads that can catch you out on any given week?

The real problem is the players are cooked at the top clubs. How many players who played Copa and Euros been already injured this season. The players are getting their mid summer rest while rehabbing during the season.
