I just re-read Hickmans Secret Wars. Probably my favorite Comic Book Event. Looking back it was probably the perfect time to reboot the Marvel Universe, but I see why they didn't. Actually seems like the Maura character from his X-men run would work too. I wonder if that's a coincidence or if Marvel keeps backing out of doing the reboot.

I think the point of Moira was having her as a "put the toys back in the box" device once Hickman ended his original plans for the franchise.

With Secret Wars there was clearly an intention of doing a "Marvel's Crisis" and editorial chickened out and instead they ended up ruining Secret Wars as an ongoing series by starting the new era before the SW ended :dead:

I swear I've been chasing the high of Time Runs Out through Secret Wars ever since I first read it. Definitely my favorite event as well.
I feel both Marvel and DC have been chasing it too and it has created event fatigue. "This is the biggest story ever and the stakes couldn't be higher" is very tired troupe at this point. They should've let SW breathe for some years instead of forcing a formula that only worked with Hickman.

Ultimate Universe #1 felt like another set up issue, Hickman and Marvel with 5 straight crash grabs trying to milk the "Ultimate" brand :dead: :francis:

Black Panther was set up very nicely though, I hope Hill knocks it out of the park.

Spidey also had some very interesting developments considering the status of Norman and aunt May :lupe: :lupe:

Momoko's X-Men seems like a total side project but I'm very curious about her pitch and how she develops armor.

I agree, this could've easily been told in his 4 part Ultimate Invasion story.
Still I enjoyed this quite a bit.
I have a feeling we are in for good and unique stories with Black Panther and X-Men (Armor focused). I'm kinda glad now that it isn't just a continuation of the original Ultimate Universe.

Isn't that Hickman's M.O.? A shytload of setup with no real payoff until the last 2-3 issues.
There's ways of doing it though. This Ultimate Universe relaunch feels like a homework assignememt Hickman got after Cates had to step down from the project.

Hickman Is about big ideas and worldbuilding, yes, but he's great at making you want to read every step towards the final goal and he gives you a lot of big moments in between. You compare Ultimate Invasion and UU #1 to G.O.D.S. and it's night and day.

Granted, I like the setting and I'm intrigued what each new comic is going to do with it. But I could've read the wiki and start in January and be more than ok with it. I couldn't have said the same about not reading Time Runs Out before Secret Wars or HoX/PoX before the X-Men relaunch.
