Castle Freak had some super weird moments that stood out but overall I found the move to be very meh.

Anything for Jackson was great. The premise was awesome, the way everything unfolded was creepy as hell...the only issue I had was with the ending.

Felt the same on Castle Freak. I'm not sure what it is, but Castle Freak had a similar vibe to Puppet Master the Littlest Reich for me. I'll stick with the classic versions.

What about the end didn't you like on Anything for Jackson? I have a feeling I know what you mean and agree.

I couldn't help but compare it to the original and it came up lacking in every category. Plus it didn't help that I was expecting to see Barbara Crampton in the remake because I remember her tweeting something last year about going back to the castle from the original Castle Freak to make a movie but I think that was for a proposed Castle Freak sequel maybe.

It seemed to be one of those instances where the filmmaker didn't know how to end so they just ended it abruptly without any type of satisfying conclusion. It was the same issue I had with The Dark & The Wicked's ending.
I needed the demon/devil thing to do something more than just take a stroll or for the pregnant lady to have a demon baby burst out of her stomach...just something besides ambiguity.

Decided to watch Doctor Sleep once again. I can confirm it's my favorite horror film from 2019.

Nobody can tell me otherwise. Director's Cut is just a fancy way of saying deleted scenes.

Not much from the director's cut that I felt like was a must-see.

I was gonna watch it just to see how they did certain scenes, but my record with Stephen King books turned into movies has been underwhelming......although the remake of It and Pet Sematary were decent. May screen it when I get through my backlog.

I feel the same on Castle Freak just falling short basically everywhere. It's like the creators knew the source material pretty well but just didn't really capture what made the older versions special. Idk if that's just nostalgia talking though because the originals were pretty damned campy.

I feel you about both conclusions. Ironically, I think a good example of sticking the landing was how the Cleansing Hour finished up. I don't think that movie's as good as either Anything for Jackson or The Dark and the Wicked, but the ending was shrewd.

I agree with you about The Cleansing Hour. That ending was perfect for that movie.

And I might have liked Castle Freak more if any of the characters were worth a damn but they were all so paper thin that I could barely be bothered to care about anything that happened to them and that included the blind girl.
